Sisterhood

Temple Emeth Sisterhood is a vital arm of our synagogue community, giving women of all ages the opportunity to connect with each other, to strengthen their commitment to Judaism, and to support Temple Emeth through a variety of activities. Sisterhood is affiliated with Women’s League for Conservative Judaism.

Book Club

For more than three decades, our monthly book group has been reviewing and discussing a range of fiction and non-fiction books. We meet once a month in the Rabbi’s Library; check the website calendar for meeting dates and times. For information, contact our veteran book reviewer, Ellie Smith, by leaving a message at the Temple office 617-469-9400, or email Ellie. Click here to view this year's book titles.

Judaica and Gift Shop

Since 1977 the Judaica and Gift Shop has offered Temple Emethmembers an array of goods for all Jewish occasions. Shop for Bar/Bat Mitzvah and wedding invitations, imprinted kippot, a diverse selection of tallisim, as well as ritual items needed for the celebration of Shabbat and the holidays. “Entertainment” coupon books are available. Proceeds benefit Sisterhood programs.

The shop is open on Sundays from 9 am to12 noon, Tuesdays from 3 to 4 pm, and by appointment. For additional information - or if you are interested in volunteering to “wo(man)” the store - please contact Penny Grossman, Judaica Shop Manager, by leaving a message at the Temple office 617-469-9400, or by email.

Quilt

Sisterhood members are creating a quilt with the theme “The Spirit of Temple Emeth” by making individual squares which will be assembled to form the finished piece. All members are welcome to add their creativity to this project. For information leave a message at the Temple office 617-469-9400, or email Sisterhood.

Rummage Sale

Our annual rummage sale offers gently used clothing, sports equipment, household goods, toys, books, jewelry, and more. Proceeds benefit Sisterhood; unsold merchandise is given to local social service organizations. For information, contact Harriet Kantrowitz at the Temple Office 617-469-9400, or email her.

Torah Fund

As part of our affiliation with Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, Sisterhood holds a Torah Fund Campaign which supports The Jewish Theological Seminary (New York, NY), the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies (Los Angeles, CA), and the Schechter Institutes (Jerusalem). Each year we honor a Sisterhood member through our Woman of Distinction Award.
