Shirai Emet Choir
Shirei Emeth, the Temple Emeth Choir, sings on holidays and special occasions, but mostly we sing for fun.
The choir was started in 1989 by our Musical Director, Gennady Konnikov.
We have anywhere from 10 to 20 members at any one time and we sing in four part harmony.
Contrary to popular opinion, we don’t require years of experience or training in singing in order to join.
And although we mostly sing in Hebrew and Yiddish, we don’t require our members to be fluent in either of those languages.
Over the years, we’ve built up a
good sized repertoire which enables us to perform several times a year.
We sing an annual Chanukah concert at the Vilna Shul on Beacon Hill,
and we sing on Yom Hashoah, for the Israel Bond Fund function, for
various Temple Emeth celebrations, Bar Mitzvahs, and for the residents
of several neighborhood nursing homes.
We have traveled to Rhode Island and are planning to go to the Jewish
Choral Festival in the Catskills this year.
We have recently joined voices with the Temple Emanuel Adult Choir for
several concerts, and we enjoy expanding our repertoire and our
friendships.
We rehearse on Monday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Temple Emeth.
Call the Temple office if you’d like more information on joining or engaging us to enhance your special occasion.
Please join us!
Chevra T'Hillim
Temple Emeth Chevra T'Hillim is the fellowship group of our vibrant daily minyan.
The main purpose of Chevra T'Hillim is the studying and learning of Psalms.
We are involved with Psalms each day at minyan.
Psalms offer praise to Adonay and bring strength and comfort to individuals in private moments.
Interest in Psalms includes selecting individual lines from Hebrew Psalms
and writing new Psalms in English. Recent scholarship also emphasizes spiritual approaches to the Psalms.
Audio CDs of Psalms are available, restoring the musical origin of the texts and exploring the potential for music imbedded in the text itself.
The Qumrum scroll of T'Hillim is an interesting archeological record of the Psalms.
