Adult Learning

“Torah-Or”: The Torah – the Law – is illumination. Proverbs 6:23

The Torah in its broadest sense represents Jewish knowledge, which guides the thinking of clergy and others at Temple Emeth in designing adult education programming. We offer educational programs that increase knowledge and appreciation of Judaism from spiritual, historical, cultural, and linguistic vantage points. Our roster of presenters includes Temple Emeth clergy and national Jewish community leaders. Our classes, workshops, and other events are learning opportunities for our community – constructing a passionate commitment to being Jewish, and celebrating the growth of our Jewish selves.

For current educational and programming offerings, please check the Temple calendar or Upcoming events.

Temple Emeth offers several annual programs relating to issues of significance to the Jewish community.

Shivek Bible Lecture

The Shivek Bible Lecture brings a renowned intellectual to Temple Emeth for a thought-provoking lecture and discussion.

For more than thirty years, the Shivek Bible Lecture has been sponsored by Herbert Shivek, a past Temple president, and Louise Shivek, in memory of their parents, Jennie and Bernard Shivek and Anna and Theodore Shaps.

Kallah

Since 1977 the Kallah lecture series has offered an eminent “scholar-in-residence” who delivers several talks over the course of a weekend. Topics have ranged from the analytical, “The History, Ideology, and Future of the Conservative Movement,” to the spiritual, “Kabbalah and You: The Jewish Mystical Experience,” to the practical, “A Washington Correspondent Looks at the Middle East.”

Through the generosity of the Silverstein and Gray families, the Kallah program honors the memories of Frances and Nathan Silverstein, Anita and Robert Gray, Milton Gray and Mervin Gray.
